The library may be the place to go if you’re in need of some reading material, but what many students don’t know is that the library offers many services beyond books.

The SFCC library allows students access to tons of databases for use in research, but it also allows students to check out CDs, DVDs, camcorders, e-readers, GoPro cameras, graphic calculators, laptops, projectors, as well as mobile hotspots.According to the school website, students may also print, copy, and fax.

The library is located in Building 2 on the SFCC campus, and it is currently open for limited services Monday through Thursday, from 8 am to 2 pm. For questions, students can call (509)533-3834 during open hours.

All students have access to the Spokane Public Library system through the school. Students can sign up for a library card using the assigned school email address. Beyond books, the library’s website boasts a variety of items for checkout, ranging from household items like sewing machines to telescopes, guitars and ukuleles, gardening tools, and microscopes. The library even has an in-house 3-D printer.

The Spokane Public Library has several branches across Spokane, including the East Side, Hillyard, Indian Trail, Northtown Mall, STA Plaza, and South Hill Branches. Currently the Downtown and Shadle branches are closed.

The online library is also always open, and library cardholders can checkout and download ebooks right to their phone or e-reader. All branches are open Tuesday through Saturday, from 10 am to 6 pm.

“All locations are open for Grab N’ Go browsing without reservations during regular hours,” reads a COVID-19 update on the website. “Customers may also continue to pick up materials curbside.”

For students outside of the greater Spokane area, the Spokane County Library District may be the place to go. Here, cardholders can check out Washington Discover Passes and other great tools which are available for curbside pickup. The county district has locations in AIrway Heights, Argonne, Cheney, Deer Park, Fairfield, Medical Lake, Moran Prairie, North SPokane, Otis Orchards, and Spokane Valley. Each branch has its own hours and days open, so it will be worthwhile to look up the hours of the location nearest you.

Stevens County Public Libraries also have locations in Nine Mile Falls, Chewelah, Colville, Kettle Falls, Loon Lake, Northport and Onion Creek. According to the website, cardholders can borrow laptops and hotspots for curbside use. Hours and services vary by location.
