Nestled in the heart of downtown Spokane, Zola is more than just a bar; it’s an establishment where the sounds of live music fill the air every night. It creates a vibrant and lively atmosphere that keeps locals and visitors coming back for more.
Sheldon Moore, a bartender at Zola for the past seven years, knows the bar like the back of his hand. With a strong energy for the place, he shared what he thinks makes Zola special. Whether you’re a fan of R&B, blues, or something else entirely, Zola’s diverse music lineup offers something for everyone, and the energy of the place is simply contagious.
“We play music from all kinds of genres,” Sheldon said. “You’ll hear a little of everything here. Some of our favorite local artists like Jerry Lee Raynes and Blake Barley come through here regularly.”
Shedlon said one of the most remarkable things about Zola is how they’re able to cater to such a wide range of people.
“The demographic here is anyone from 21 to even 75 years old,” Sheldon said. “We have a really broad crowd and that makes it a really cool environment.
Whether it’s a night out with friends, a date, or even your first drink, Zola welcomes all.
“We take everyone in with open arms and create an inclusive environment where great music and good vibes are guaranteed,” sSaid Moore .
Zola’s atmosphere is enhanced by its historical setting. The building itself was constructed in the 1800s and is now a shared space with a few other establishments neighboring Zola. The character of the building shines through in every corner of the bar. From its upstairs party room with immensely characteristic items like the tilt-a-whirls that they gathered from a junkyard as seating and rope lights around the visible pipes, to the booths against brick walls with intimate lighting everywhere in the bar. When you walk in, it’s impossible not to be drawn in by the charm of the space.
As for food and drink, Zola offers a fresh rotation of menu items.
“Our menu changes with the seasons, so there’s always something fun and new to try,” Sheldon said. “Right now is our spring menu and my favorites are probably the smashburger and our chicken souvlaki.”
But Iit’s not just the food and drinks that keep people coming back; It’s the memories made and people you can meet behind these walls! Sheldon fondly remembers one of his favorite moments at Zola being when he met a few notable figures in the same week like Shane Gillis and Yung Gravy.
“That week was definitely a highlight for me,” says Sheldon. “Being able to meet them was awesome and I was also able to get some photos. It kind of shows that Zola is a place that you can meet all kinds of people.”
Zola has the space and the atmosphere for everyone. Sheldon Moore adds,
“We have the best happy hour in Spokane. People know when they come that they’re going to get something special.”
