Made With Love Bakery

Made With Love Bakery is an independent woman-run bakery located in a historical building in West Central that features an assortment of confections.

Tamar Powers, a Spokanite of over 20 years and SFCC alum, bought the bakery in 2025, keeping the original owner’s name and logo.

Since taking over the bakery, Powers has been working to prove herself as a successful baker and differentiate herself from other bakers.

“I am not an average baker,” she said. “I wake up and bake what I feel like.”

“There is no box, I love having new stuff, I love customizing. Work with the budget, be fair, keeps it stress free and makes it fun.”

Powers created Bourbon Bliss, a well known flavor at the bakery. Much of the recipe’s ingredients are locally sourced, and the cookie is so popular that Powers may consider copyrighting the recipe, as she is the only one producing it in the area.

“I do the best I can to buy local, “I buy premium ingredients for the bakery,” she said.

With a one oven shop, there are technical limitations but unlimited creativity. Powers does enjoy some bakery creations more than others.

“Cheesecakes are my favorite, wedding cakes are the challenge I like,” she said. “Texture, stacking, I enjoy that.”

Powers had scheduled an appearance to speak in Spokane Valley in April. Shawn Lloyd, creator of rConnect in Spokane, heard of Powers and scheduled for an in depth public interview. Powers’ story is one of struggle and success and Lloyd wanted to share the details with the community.

“Tamar’s story is pretty encouraging to others,” Lloyd said. “It shows what options are available for women and businesswomen.”

While Powers’ degree wasn’t in culinary arts, continuing her education she had found it benefits the bakery.

“I was self taught,” she said. “By studying videos I learned how to bake wedding cakes.”

Powers said she hopes to expand to other locations and cities

“Downtown, Seattle, Coeur’ d Alene, are all future possibilities,” she said. “The process of building the brand is exciting. I am also trying to get a mural painted on the building for the community.”

Made With Love Bakery has an open everyday schedule, retailing the community from morning until the afternoon.

Returning customer Lisa Fuchs works at West Central Community Center and keeps a weekly appointment for coffee and baked goods with other employees from West Central Community Center.

“The people are lovely,” Fuchs said. “It is a really nice, quiet, bakery spot. [It’s a] calming environment that is a dream of every neighborhood.”
