Going out this Thanksgiving

Local restaurants have the bad cook covered on Thanksgiving, so look no further for a hot meal on Thanksgiving than these restaurants.

The Safari Restaurant and Bar at the Davenport is serving their regular menu, plus a traditional turkey dinner, pumpkin stew and pumpkin pie. They are open their normal hours, 6:30 am to 9 pm.

“Thanksgiving is a holiday to be pampered, get dressed up and to be served,” said Karri Bradshaw. “ It shouldn’t be about worrying how long to cook the bird.”

The Davenport also has happy hour on Thanksgiving from 4 to 6pm, and drinks are half off as well as their famous flat bread.

“We stay open because we want to make sure that we are available to our guests,” Bradshaw said, “We figure people don’t want to cook on Turkey Day, so we take care of that for them so they can focus on the more important things.”

Golden Corral Buffet is also offering a full Thanksgiving dinner, with turkey, stuffing, steak, ham, mashed potatoes, and the bakery’s special pumpkin pie. They are open from 11am to 5pm on Thanksgiving, and have been open on the holiday for 20 years.

Manager, Tarisha Veliz, says they have lines all throughout the day. “We always have a good turnout on Thanksgiving and we stay pretty busy from open to close.”

They find that most of the people who come don’t want to cook, but still want to have a typical Thanksgiving dinner. Many of the people who come on Turkey Day are regulars.

“We are very welcoming here, especially on Thanksgiving,” Veliz said. “We have everything you’d want to cook at home, and for a pretty good price.”

If all else fails, there is one restaurant that never closes, and that’s Shari’s. “The only time we’ve ever closed was when the water heater broke, thats it,” said Bernie Collwell, who has worked at Shari’s for 18 years.

Shari’s offers a whole turkey, soups, veggies, sweet potatoes, rolls, mixed mashed potatoes and gravy and their famous Shari’s pie for $14.99.

“We have a great turnout every year, probably because its cheery and homey here,” said Collwell. “Sometimes we run out of food,

“Shari’s is open 24/7 because people are always hungry.”
