A new program is coming to CCS that will assist Fairchild Air Force families with the cost of going to community college.
Fairchild Families Forward is an education fund designated to help local military members at the local air force base continue their education.
A $25,000 donation from the Our Town Gala will help create the program which will financial support those military members who are in the classroom, according to a CCS news release.
About 500 Fairchild service members and their family members are currently students of CCS. The support can take the form of tuition, books and supplies as well as transportation and childcare.
Fairchild Families Forward came to be after it was discovered that while there are many resources available for military families, the financial requirement associated with college can be difficult for them to meet.
The annual Our Town Gala is hosted by Mayor David Condon and his wife, Kristin Condon. The gala gave contributions to three community projects this year, with Fairchild Families Forward being one of them.
“We are so grateful to the Condons for their continuous generosity and to our local, state, and national leader who are working with us to help support education for our Fairchild families,” CCS Chancellor Christine Johnson said in a news release.
U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, U.S. Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers, State Commerce Director Lisa Brown and Kristin Condon all serve as honorary chairwomen of Fairchild Families Forward. All are known for their support of military families.
