Summer is coming, and students have a couple of months to do as they wish.

For those who are eager to travel, there are ways to save money and travel more efficiently to the destination.

Cory and Shaye Hubbard, frequent travelers who “know the ropes,” say that “you don’t have to have a lot of money to travel.”

“There are certain little things you can do to make your travels cheaper so that you are spending barley any money,” said Shaye. “For example, we don’t go to fast food [restaurants] while driving. Instead, we will pack so we can have a nice picnic at a rest stop, or somewhere nice on the way.”

According to Travel.usnews.com, the number one trick to do before you travel, especially for a student is to do plenty of research:

“Students may think they’re free of homework for the next few months, but the key to staying on budget is diligent research. Before reaching the booking stage, students should have a general idea of how much they can expect to pay for flights and hotel rooms. That way, they’ll be able to recognize a great deal when they see one.”

“One of the best tools I think I have to plan my travels are the many sites and apps I can look up and compare costs of flights, hotels and much more,” Cory said. “If I were to have any tips I would say utilize the resources that are available to you and also to find out which is the best form of travel, from trains to planes.”

Another tip from Travel.usnews.com is to “be flexible” because “students with looser travel plans are more likely to score lower rates on airfare and hotels than those with plans set in stone.”

“Depending on where I go, trains or more cheap than flying somewhere,” said Farah Mirza, an exchange student from Saudi Arabia. “Plus I don’t have to worry about someone falling asleep at the wheel. But when I decide to fly the first thing I do before anything is buy the plane ticket. Booking ahead of time is the best for my budget; also look at different airlines.”
