This recipe is something you could use at your next family gathering. All ingredients were sourced from my local food bank except for the pie crust, the cheeses, and the cream. The price for all of which came out to somewhere around $20.
Ingredients-
1 Box Macaroni Noodles
Cheese Sauce:
¼ Cup Flour
½ Stick Butter
⅓ Cup Mild Cheddar
⅓ Cup Gouda
⅓ Cup Swiss
⅓ Cup Cream Cheese
½ Heavy Cream
1 Cup Milk (which will be added one ½ Cup at a time)
¾ Teaspoon Salt
¾ Teaspoon Garlic Powder
¾ Teaspoon Onion Powder
Streusel:
1 Pack Cinnamon Graham Crackers
4 Scrips Bacon
¼ Teaspoon Black Pepper
¼ Stick Butter
1 Tablespoon Sugar
1 Teaspoon Vanilla Extract
Jiffy Pie Crust Mix
2 Bowls
1 Pot
1 Pie Dish
1 Spoon
Recipe-
1. Preheat the oven to 425°F.
2. Make the pie crust following the instructions on the box, flatten the crust and place it in the pie dish, place the dish in the fridge for 1 hour.
3. To make the streusel, fry the bacon until crispy and leave on a plate with paper towels to cool and suck up the grease. In a bowl, combine the bacon with 1 pack of crushed graham crackers, black pepper, sugar, vanilla extract, and melted butter. Stir until it is all meshed together.
4. By this time the crust should be ready to put in the oven. Place it in the oven for 15 minutes. Note: when baking the crust by itself, place a sheet of wax paper on top of it with some rice or beans to weigh it down. Once it is out of the oven, reduce heat to 350°F.
5. Boil macaroni, strain, put in bowl, fill bowl with cold water, strain again, place back in bowl.
6. In a pot just used for macaroni and on low heat, use the half stick of butter and flour to make a rue. Butter first, wait for it to melt, add flour and mix. Slowly add cream and cheese. Once the cheese begins to melt, add ½ Cup of milk. Add salt, onion powder, and garlic powder. Once cheese is fully melted, add the last ½ Cup of milk. Stir until slightly thick.
7. Once sauce is ready, combine in a bowl with macaroni and stir until it is all meshed together.
8. Place macaroni in pie crust and top with the streusel.
9. Place in the oven at 350°F for 30 minutes.
10. Let cool, plate, and enjoy.
