Parking is too crowded here

Attempting to find a parking spot on campus is a nightmare. It’s feels like students to are always driving around in an endless circle trying to get a spot in hopes of not being late. The first day of the quarter, my first day of college, I planned to give myself extra time on campus to walk around and get used to things. Well that would have been nice except It ended up taking me 25 minutes to find a spot! I mean when you have roughly 9,000 students and maybe a ¼ of that in parking spots, things are bound to get crowded.

There seems to be two major areas on campus that are the worst, parking lots 3,9 and 13. Two of the are the largest parking areas on campus and seemingly first place most students go to first in hopes of getting a spot. The problem with this is everyone gets there about the same time and it causes a slow moving, road rage causing traffic flow.

I have heard many people say many different things related to possible solutions. One of which is putting a parking garage in. While this seems like a simple so solution, the price of one would be sky high and we do not have enough students on campus to fill one. Another ideas is to raise the price of parking passes. This would then cut out some students who couldn’t afford them and therefore less students parking on campus. I don’t agree with that one at all.  The best alternative, if you ask me, would be to have student make more use of public transit. SFCC offers discounted bus tickets and it would clear up the bulk of our parking issues.
