If you’re looking for some extra ways to earn cash this holiday season here are 10 places hiring for the holidays.

Many stores are looking for extra hands this holiday season to help with the crowds.  With employee benefits and plenty of hours available, seasonal employees are treated the same as long-term employees.

“Hours depends on availability,” said Jared Johnson, Division Supervisor for JC Penney.  “It entirely depends; it can fluctuate and especially with different holiday seasons that we have around this time of year, the hours will change.  It depends on people’s availability and their willingness to take that [the job] on.”

Working in a retail store does not mean you have to know all about the products you sell.

“It’s less about product knowledge and how you know the departments; it’s more about how you are willing to help people,” Johnson said.  “It’s a lot less valuable to have somebody who knows everything and is unwilling to help than it is to have somebody who is willing to find the answers for you and offer the help that you need.”

Many stores hiring for the holidays are looking for similar traits in their employees when they turn in their applications.

“When I look at an application, I look for something that will stand out,” Hallmark’s Manager Moriah Jantz said.  “I look for something that’s going to stand out to show me that you’re a hard worker.”

“You have a better chance of getting hired if you’re a team player,” said Macy’s employee Abbey Andersen.  “Cooperating, working hard, being honest, and being on time are big ones, too.”

Employee advantages and benefits can range anywhere from being in a friendly environment, becoming part of an in-store “family”, to discounts on products from the store.

“Hallmark is like a family atmosphere,” said Jantz.  “You get really close to your fellow employees; you become a little family and that’s the best part about it.”

These employee benefits and advantages aren’t only limited to becoming an employee, there are stores that offer benefits like discounts on in-store products.

“As soon as someone starts they get an associate discount,” Johnson said.  “That’s 25 percent off your price, that works on everything in the store, regardless of how long you’ve been an employee.”

Extra cash is never far during the holidays.  Especially for Macy’s employees that receive commission on top of minimum wage.

“We have a lot of fun; the goals are great so you continually keep progressing with your sales,” Andersen said.  “Also, we get payed off of commission on top of minimum wage.  You also get a 20 percent discount on stuff around the store.”
