With renovations in its not so distant future; SFCC is going to receive a makeover that will enhance the student athletic experience for years to come.
SFCC has always been a place for students to get an affordable college education, but has held little reputation for its sports and pristine athletic facilities. That however, is about to change for the better coming up in the spring of 2018.
“When the project is completed, students will have a modern, accessible, expanded facility,” said Ken Burrus the Dean of Physical Education for Community Colleges of Spokane. “Students will have greater opportunities to learn about health and fitness and to participate in fitness related activities.”
The students who are paying for the new gym, may never get the opportunity to use the facilities as the renovations will not occur for another couple of years.
“As long as I’m helping out future students,” said Katlyn Summers a student on the basketball program here at SFCC “I don’t mind if I never get to use it.”
Renovation processes could possibly include a rockwall for students to use, a juice bar, including protein drinks, and other slimming drinks for student athletes.
“Each person using the fitness center pays either a quarterly or yearly fee,” said the SFCC website. The money used in those quarterly or yearly rates goes to things like the upcoming renovations and upgraded gym equipment.
“The project will benefit all members of our District,” said Burrus “it will also benefit the entire Spokane community.”
The new gym facilities will be open to the public, as long as they pay the monthly fee required to use the equipment.
Renovations such as this could possibly mean big things for all community colleges. The gym wouldn’t just be for students but for the entire community, and it would give SFCC a better outlet into public stardom.
