An Inside Look at Chosen Vintage

Take a step into Spokane’s largest vintage clothing store and take in the sights. Chosen Vintage is located in a historic building, and filled with bright colors and eclectic items. From vintage clothing, CDs, VHSs, antiques, posters, and more, Chosen Vintage is filled with items that might be just what you’ve been looking for.

Though Chosen Vintage has a variety of items, they specialize in vintage clothing.

“There’s every sort of style that you could want, so it’s a very broad range,” said employee Andy Bechtold. “It’s very broad, that way we have something for everyone.”

It has more than what greets your eyes when you open the door. Besides a variety of nooks and corners, there is also a bright staircase leading to a second story, also filled with material for sale.

“We definitely have an insane amount of square footage,” Bechtold said.

For students who are interested in making a few extra dollars here and there, Chosen Vintage offers cash for items they are interested in reselling. With 15 vendors who sort each item of clothing and decide what will end up on the rack, each article is hand picked, said Bechtold. Rather than taking donations, the people at Chosen Vintage buy the items that they want.

“Give us a call and we can set up a time,” said Bechtold. “We go through everything and see what we’d be interested in, make a price from there, and pay cash on the spot. Most of the stuff that we will actually like to buy is going to be clothing”

One major reason to buy items from thrift stores is because of the impact you can have on your surroundings.

“The big thing with doing vintage is that it’s a lot better for the environment,” said Bechtold. “You’re keeping stuff out of landfills and you’re helping our future generations.”

In the two stories of Chosen Vintage, there is a lot of room to find something new to wear, listen to, or hang.

“I like that it’s big, there are a lot of options,” customer Felicia Guthmueller said. “I like that you can find things that you can’t find anywhere else. There’s a lot to choose from, and everyone can find something!”

Guthmeuller, along with friend Joleen Crawford, have been to Chosen Vintage many times, and even invited other friends to join them in their visits to Chosen Vintage.

“I like all the vintage stuff,” Crawford said. “I go to WSU (Washington State University), so I like all the WSU gear here, it’s much more vintage than buying it at school.”

Chosen Vintage has more than just vintage clothing to sell, it also contains history in the very bones of the building. Before becoming “Chosen Vintage,” this building has gone through many different shifts, one being a House of Charity. Around 1975, 7 W Main Ave, Spokane was housing the homeless and helping the community. Some evidence of the old House of Charity located in the current Chosen Vintage is the walk-in fridge, now filled with racks of clothing, located on the second story.

If you are ever in downtown Spokane, take some time to stop by Chosen Vintage and see for yourself what they have on their racks and shelves.
