The CCS track and field team broke both school and national records at the Eugene Oregon track meet april 17th-19th.
Jessica Mildes broke a junior college national record for the 10k (ten kilometer race) by around five seconds. “it was a real blessing” she said. She started to slow down midway through the race, but says after a quick prayer she picked up speed and broke the record by five seconds.. She also aims to break the school record for the 1,500 meter , and says shes close to doing so only off by about one second. Head coach Jason Cash says of Mildes “She’s a superstar.”
Hurdler Aric Walden may have broken a school record held by Gold Medal Olympian Dan O’Brien also at the Eugene meet. “Aric walden is our hurdler… he ran what we think is probably the fastest hurdle time… and I would imagine he’ll actually run a better time this year too…” said Cash.
Walden however injured his hamstring at the Eugene meet.
Roy Walser and Micah Ohl are the mens team captains, and are also suffering from injuries. Walser was injured while practicing and Ohl during the Eugene meet.
Ohl said “I strained my hammie and my groin at the oregon relays this past weekend..we were killing it and I hit it right at the end of my leg; and as soon as I went down we ended up losing the race because we got disqualified..hopefully by NWAACC we’re aiming to break the record in four-one, which is the allstate conference record…we’ve just got a lot of kids injured right now”
The NWAACC championship is on May 19th-20th at SFCC. With the event being less than a month away, Walser, and Ohl say they are confident the CCS track team will do well in the approaching NWAACC championship “we feel like once we get healthy we’ll be back on top where we were” said Walser
