Managing Editor: Shelby Witt

My name is Shelby Witt and have navigated my way through a mostly unconventional college experience that has now landed me at SFCC. I went to Eastern Washington University immediately after graduating high school and after bumbling my way through courses I thought might ignite my interest towards a professional career, I left EWU feeling discouraged and unsure of my educational path. After taking a three year hiatus from school I decided I wanted to take my credits from EWU and transfer them to SFCC and finish my Associates of Arts degree. I have always excelled in writing and love the creative process which led me to enroll in journalism courses at SFCC. I took of few of Jason Nix’s courses, who is an excellent journalism and mass media teacher, and he encouraged me to join the Communicator staff. I started my first quarter with the Communicator as a reporter and now as Managing Editor in my second quarter with the campus publication. I am always excited to see my own personal growth and the growth of everyone in the SFCC newsroom, it’s an inspiring thing to learn from. After graduating SFCC in the winter of 2018, I plan on transferring to a larger university to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, making me the first person in my family to do so.
